College Guys Guide To Fine Cognac

OK fellas, lets take it up a notch. What you must know is that a good appreciation for cognac, not just any cognac but "fine cognac" is one of the rites of passage to becoming a bonafide smooth gentleman. Now this drink may not be an every weekend type of thing, but with these in your arsenal and in the right setting you are sure to catch the eyes of all the right people.(ahem, ladies)

E&J Brandy $21
This is where you start. This is where the game begins, if you are unfamiliar with this Cognac then let this be your stepping stone. Like in my previous post about champagne involving the terminology( Champagne and Sparkling Wine), only brands made in France can be considered a true Cognac. Brands made anywhere else on earth are called Brandy. Great quality. Great taste.

Courvoisier VS & Martel VS $35
Courvoisier and Martel are the next step up. As far as taste they are pretty much the same and as far as price they are exactly the same. These two cognacs are where you become an apprentice.

Remy Martin Mature Cask VSOP $48
Now its time to come out and play. This is one of the best tasting drinks I've ever had. Like I said before this isn't an every weekend drink and its pricing shows that. But, this is a drink for a small gathering of friends or maybe an intimate night at your apartment over dinner with a lady. Either way this is a good way to amaze a few people.

Hennessy Fine De Cognac $51
Ok let me start by saying this... The fact that this is 51 bucks is robbery. This cognac is exquisite, it tastes so impressive I had to check the price tag again after I bought it. The name of the cognac is "Fine" for a reason, this is all that and then some. Once you get here you are ready for your masters course, Hennessy Fine De Cognac is where you become a man.

Hope this was helpful, until next time.

JUST IN CASE...
Just in case you were wondering I broke down all of the Cognac lingo for you. Indulge.

Cognac: Cognac comes from France. Although other brands may be similar in taste there is only one place cognac is made.

Brandy: Anywhere else this kind of drink is made is considered a brandy.

VS: Very Special. Aged about 2 years
VSOP: Very Special Old Pale. Aged about 4 years
XO: Extra Old. Aged at least 6 but upwards to 20 years

NOTE! There are cognacs aged longer than this. For Example, Remy Martin Louis XII is aged up to 100 years. If you want more extensive research then comment and let me know.
