The Gifted

If it were told from the masses then you would believe talent is only attained as a gift. That throughout the onslaught of people who enter and exit this world only a few are chosen to rise above all. The haunting secret of the talented or THE GIFTED is that they realize the relentless work and energy put into their craft to make them appear godly among mortals. To what heights do you wish to ascend to? What greatness are you willing to reach and how tirelessly are you willing to work at it? Life isnt not just a mere game of whose blessed and whose not, that would make things too simple. Tell that to a kid from the inner cities of Chicago, Detroit or New York who start off with NOTHING... Life is about THE GIFTED, those who understand their talents and realize that the work isnt done. Those who not only wish to succeed but to bring the world to its knees. Theres many great things to aspire to but can accomplish them? Can you inspire the inspired? Are you THE GIFTED?

Detroit

There is a certain elegance, power and strength to Detroit. Most young people living today unless you are from there have no clue of the significance the city has played in progress of culture, arts and economy of modern day America. At one point in the city's tumultuous history it was the heartbeat of America, General Motors and Ford controlled the automotive industry while Motown literally produced every legendary black recording artist of its era.

Unfortunately those days are gone now and whats left is a city with a fall comparable to that of ancient Rome. Detroit is like the rich woman who lost everything, she may not be what she once was but you can still detect her pride and sophistication.

Maybe its in the name, Detroit obviously hints at french ancestry (City was founded by French-Canadian Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac) there is a adherent subtle flair and sophistication to the old architecture, even the ones considered ruins. Detroit is glorious from an artistic standpoint, even at its low point. Anyone with mild taste will stand in awe of the vacant old Detroit Central Station, it majestic. The GM building has uniqueness, the Joe Louis Fist personifies the city's tough culture, the Spirit of Detroit statue is elegant and strong. The Fox and Fillmore brings that theatrical flair. Detroit screams revival, and once it does it will be the toast of America.

The city will return, it has to. Whether it is back to its prominent form remains to be seen but it will come back to a form greater than what we see today. The city that's known for its Joe Louis sculptured fist of course still has that fighters chance. All that it has been through will only make it stronger on its rise to the top.

Success and other Drugs

I wrote this in a studio apartment in Downtown Chicago while listening to Animal Collective.

There is a feeling I get when I successfully complete an interview, or when someone understands my creative vision. I cant quite explain it though I'm sure its euphoric, the kinda feeling you get when find 20 dollars in a pair of pants you haven't wore in a month. Success is funny thing you know, because its fleeting. Its something we either all want, claim to have or too embarrassed to admit we'll hardly ever attain. There isn't much room for content in success, in fact you often see those who we deem the most successful are the ones striving the most to succeed. Why is that you ask? BECAUSE ITS A DRUG.... AND YOU ARE ADDICTED. Vain as it may be there is a difference between dinners at French Laundry and at Apple bee's(about 200-1000 dollar difference). Your heart yearns for that feeling though and you wont say it, afraid of coming off as someone whose submersed in social gluttony. The question beckons... is vanity fair? is there any true measure of the heart within the successes of the person it resides in? I'll let you answer that.

Digital Love

Social Media has done something to people, it has made people better or worse than what they really are. Very rarely do "you get what you see" when it comes to the person portrayed on social media outlets and the  person you would get had you known whats in their heart. There is an obvious physical disconnect with social media but it later turns into a mental and psychological one. There are people who enjoy there virtual reality better than there actual reality. I can hear the collective voice of our grandparents saying "what is wrong with this generation?".... But seriously what is wrong with our generation? Video games and social networks have desensitized very human elements of our person to a degree that basic interaction and compassion is no longer common place.





I remember the days when guys really had girlfriends.

I'm not much of a movie watcher but whenever I was forced to it was always an old one. I can remember being in college(like a week ago) and my Professor Dr.Burns would play these vintage movies with Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor in them. At first I thought I would get that rush of boredom that makes you want to sleep until you fall of the desk kind of feeling but I realized something important, the era in which these movies were made was a golden age. Sure the late 60's and 70's had its problems but back then people were actually people. Knowingly or unknowingly there is a certain posturing and artificial flavor to most people you come in contact with today. Maybe its our do everything for you smart phones or our facade laden image on social networks, but whatever it is it has to go... we have to stop pretending. I long for the day that I can take a girl to a nice dinner and have a good conversation that doesn't have to do with something on television, or what her friends are saying on twitter, or have to stop every 20 minutes to take a instagram picture... you know, like it was not too long ago.

Live From The Favelas: Brazil

Whether its Brazil's Cidade De Deus(City of God) or the inner city of Rio, the Favelas are a notorious playground for all things treacherous.

The inner city is term we use more than we think about what it means. They say say you can judge the strength of something by its weakest link, how ironic that very often the strength of a city is on display at its best in what is regarded as the most impoverished areas of it. Brazil is beautiful, but for damn sure it is violent. The Favelas of Brazil is regarded as one of the most dangerous areas on the face of the planet. Children are dying, women raped, young men become murderers or murdered. This is all commonplace in the world but ratcheted up several notches for Brazil, think 1990's Compton, CA times ten.

Children in the Favelas are more likely to die violently then in any place in North America and many places in the world. The slaughter of tens of thousands of the citizens are swept under the rug here, much like many places of poverty. Hopelessness and rebellion are at an all time high, Brazil is at war with its ghettos.

There is a terrible disservice we due to the human race while we are inhabitants on this earth. We don't take care of them. As much money as we have, as much resources as we allocate we always claim there isn't enough. The root of the violence is not that people want to do bad things innately, it is the fact that there needs aren't met and the people they trust with helping them to solve the issue turns a blind eye. Violence in ghettos are simply reactions to the situation whether it be lack of education, lack of food and water, and lack of money. The battle between the worlds ghettos and its government is a dance with the devil, one could only hope that both sides can come to an agreement or they'll surely destroy each other.

Stealing The Fire

Have you heard of the story of Prometheus? If not then im sure it would be of great interest. Greek legend has it that Prometheus created man from clay and stole fire from the Gods to give to humans. When Prometheus stole the fire and gave it to humans it gave humans the ability to progress in civilization( "What was dark is now light"). The story of Prometheus got me to wonder "what is your fire?". Many times in today's society whatever our "fire" is and whatever motivates us is most often stolen and lost through the process of life. The things that we most feel passionate about are often not what society encourages us to become. I ask that you maintain your fire for life and become your passions. If Prometheus would go to as great a length as stealing it from the Gods to give to humans that should tell you how important it is.

Some things are more powerful than others, some forces are too. There is a force inside of you, the "true you" that can sometimes be suppressed by the demands of what we call LIFE. Most of us lose ourselves in life and end up not being who we always thought and dreamed we could be. More than any other activity in the world human beings deeply desire being apart of something other people cannot. Whether it be your own clique, a church, a team, a cult, a fraternity or sorority, maybe even a place of work. Exclusivity is something we covet, and if it is in group form we deeply desire the feeling to be apart of it. What attracts us to these things is that it is made overtly obvious by the people involved that not all people can be apart of or reach the pinnacle required to join. But what is the end result of these reindeer games? Upon being apart of something exclusive are you better than you would have been as human being if you did these things alone? Is there a certain group think or herding of sheep you succumb to? These are all questions you must answer yourself. What I will encourage is individuality and no matter what factions you are apart of your ability to think as a individual with prove to be the most exclusive thing you could ever have.

Strange Mercy: Vice And Temptation

What I find the most interesting are the things we succumb to. We all have weaknesses that stem from things we desire. For some it may be sex, for others it may be money among many other things, but very few people on earth can control their wildest desires. I find it interesting that no matter how straight laced a person may appear or completely in control of their behavior, they can be conquered due to their own insatiable urges to temptation and vice lying deep inside them. Temptation is something we face everyday and in essence is nothing, it is the opportunity to succumb to the right temptations that can leave a person defenseless. Our servitude to vice and temptation makes us no greater than animals in fact it makes us carnal and just like them. We may act civilized and sophisticated but when the chips are down and the buttons are pushed we are nothing but animals. We are just the best of the domesticated ones.

The Social Media Model

There has been a new wave sweeping the world that I've noticed over the past two years or so. Along with the social media wave there has been the need for people to use this platform to self promote. Self promotion in a sense isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless its being executed poorly. In this day of social media  and self promotion, people(especially women) go to desperate lengths to be seen and heard. Nowadays I often find myself cringing as I scroll down my news feed. The term coined for this type of behavior is the Facebook/Instagram Model. This applies to anyone who constantly posts proactive, close ups, lifestyle (bar, clubs, malls), materialistic or model-esque pictures. I honestly feel that the people who posts several pictures of their body and of a false lifestyle have very serious confidence and emotional issues. This type of behavior craves for attention and in most cases sad shamelessness that doesn't mirror anything close to their real day to day life. Today I'm gonna breakdown the male and female offenders.

MALE
The male offenders are show offs that are habitual liars. You may know one who posts pictures of money with captions like "this is only what I'm spending today" or "all I do is get money". You may also know the one who posts pictures at clubs with his friends claiming that he is "living the life". You may know my favorite one, the guy who completely lies about everything, who he knows, the girls in his life, where he has been, how much money he has and what kind of life he lives. No matter which one you know they all are just guys who are pretending for attention. If you are one of them and you are reading this I must say I often wonder what you will do when that artificial world you created comes crashing down around you. I know that you are doing it to get girls and to seem like a big shot to people, but once they find out you aren't really like that then the people you are trying to impress will desert you. Its only so long you can pretend before people either stop caring or find out that you are a fraud. The sort of lifestyle you want to live is attainable through a vision, a plan and dedication to your work or craft. Why not give your energy to that rather than to perpetrating a false lifestyle?

WOMEN
The women offenders are the most egregious of the offenders. There are so many layers to whats wrong with the woman offender that I don't know where to begin. This is a serious issue that I will tread lightly on because some of you need real help. Maybe there has been instances in your life that has altered your perception of what a real woman should be defined as. I'm sorry if something traumatizing has happened in your life that has made you rush to other places to find that sense of love and acceptance you desperately need in your life. With that said some of you are just girls who habitually choose to do things that in your heart you know is foolish. I honestly feel like you get a rush from the comments and likes on your pictures, is that why you do it? I wonder how you would feel if one day everyone just completely stopped liking or commenting on all of you posts and pictures, it's like you find your self worth in every comment and post. If there wasn't so many men and women feeding the beast that is the ego of women like this then they would be miserable and lack self confidence. The desperate vanity on display is something I cant comprehend. What makes the whole situation worst is that it's all become obnoxious to me, I can no longer tell which girls are craving attention and which ones are actually living these lives and just sharing experiences.

In conclusion, whether you are a guy or a girl, whether you are a participant or a spectator. I ask that you do your job to end this foolishness. We are officially by my estimation the least intelligent age of humans we have had in hundreds of years. With so many trends to follow and electronic devices it makes the ability to think for yourself and formulate an authentic confidence and opinion about things a daunting task. Don't feed into the non sense, explore, learn and live life for real. No more pretending.

The Social Media Celebrity

This is something that bothers me a lot about my generation of people. I feel like social media has distorted our idea of what qualifies as what an admirable person should be. What is even more sad is that it also has given people a false sense of confidence. Nowadays everyone is a celebrity on social media. They all say things that they believe we think is cool or fancy, posts pictures of extravagant things, and basically portray a lifestyle they don't live. Truly the saddest part about this is that in real life the person is nothing like this, not even close. The social media outlet allows people to portray the role of someone lavish while they are sitting at home, in most cases not even trying to obtain this lifestyle in real life. I've heard of fake it until you make it but social media has took it a step further, it's more like fake it and not even try to make it. To me it shows that these people are lacking something in their life that they are hoping the social media outlet can fill. I say all of that to say this, if you are a social media celebrity then let me pose this question.... what is it all worth?
